Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes!

It has been almost seven years since I took the helm of Atlanta Startup Drinks. In that time, the group has gone from a mailing list of 20 to almost 1,000, and the event has gone from “Startup What?” to a permanent and popular feature on the Atlanta Startup scene. And it’s been good for me, too: I’ve enjoyed the heck out of it, made a lot of great friends, and enjoyed watching the Atlanta Startup community grow and connect.

But it’s time for me to move on. My career has taken me in new directions — most notably, since becoming VP Finance at the Atlanta Community Food Bank two years ago. And I’ve found it harder to find the time and energy to devote to this group that it deserves.

So, I am very excited to announce that Michael Mealling, the CEO of Pipefish has agreed to take over the leadership of Atlanta Startup Drinks! Michael is a high profile leader in the Atlanta startup scene, and brings a wealth of knowledge, connections and energy to the role. And he’s a hell of a nice guy, too.

Don’t be mistaken: this is not goodbye. I intend to stay active in the startup community and Startup Drinks, and look forward to seeing all my Startup Drinks friends on many more First Tuesdays!

Thanks and best wishes to everyone who’s made this journey so rewarding.

Sincerely,
Richard

March 4 at Octane Grant Park

Octane Grant Park

For our March shindig, we’re going a new place (for us, anyway), Octane Grant Park!. Important note: This is not the Octane Westside location, on Howell Mill Road.

And yes, Octane does have beer.

As always, we will start at 5pm, and will go until 9:00ish.

If you’re coming, please help us get the word out: like us on Facebook, tweet about @atlsuds, and sign up on Plancast.
See you there!

Oops!

Thanks to those of you who found us on Tuesday night. Cypress Street Pint & Plate neglected to tell anyone, including yours truly, that they were closing for two hours for a private event. We reconvened at Barrelhouse, around the corner. I did send a tweet on @atlsuds, but many of you missed it. To those who did: thanks for your perseverance! To everyone else: sorry, we’ll try to do better at the March event!

January 7 at Ormsby’s

Ormsby's

After a long absence, we’re returning to a favorite location: Ormsby’s. Ormsby’s is a “speakeasy” style bar hidden away on the West Side, near Georgia Tech, with a great beer list and good food. We’ll be downstairs, near the indoor bocce court.

Ormsby's secret door

By the way, when we say “hidden away”, we mean it. If you’ve never been to Ormsby’s before, follow the directions below, and look for the secret door with the big wrought iron “O” on it, underneath the furniture store. Then look for us in the sub-basement (seriously, go way down the stairs and look in the very back!).

As always, we will start at 5pm, and will go until 9:00ish.

If you’re coming, please help us get the word out: tell your friends, like us on Facebook, tweet about @atlsuds, and sign up on Plancast.
See you there!

Happy Holidays! (and Party)

iStock_000022214172XSmall

Once again this year, there’s a startup community holiday party, and Startup Drinks is a sponsor, along with numerous other local groups. It is on Wednesday, December 11 at 6:30pm at Ri Ra, in Midtown. It promises to be a blast — music, food, drinks, prizes and fun. Tickets are $15. I hear tickets are going fast. Attendance is limited and is first come, first served, so go get your tickets now.

Information and tickets are available here

Also, fear not: The January edition of Startup Drinks will be January 7, as usual. Location is yet to be determined. Watch here for news!

Happy Holidays!

December 3 at Troutman Sanders

Special event: APIs & IPAs

If you’re a local developer and you like beer (if you don’t, why are you on this site?), you may want to check out the APIs & IPAs event tomorrow night at Monday Night Brewing. Looks like a lot of fun — I’m sure many of your Atlsuds friends will be there!
